The meeting of ACOA’s “Cyber Threats, Procedures, and Technical Issues Committee” has been held

On July 5th of this year, the first meeting of the “Cyber Threats, Procedures, and Technical Issues Committee” of the Association of Cybersecurity Organisations of Azerbaijan (ACOA) was held.

The first meeting of the expert committee, established to support efforts against cyber threats, as well as to discuss current technical and technological issues in the fields of cybersecurity, information security, and information technologies (hereinafter referred to as the relevant field), and to assist in the development and improvement of necessary technical documents and procedures for the field, was attended by the administrative staff of ACOA, individual experts who are members of ACOA, and representatives of member companies.

Elvin Balajanov, Chairman of the Board of ACOA, opened the meeting with an introductory speech, providing information on the current state of the cybersecurity ecosystem, the expert committees established by ACOA, the factors that led to the creation of the said expert committee, and the committee’s objectives.

Subsequently, discussions were held among committee members regarding existing problems in the relevant field and potential solutions, as well as the areas of focus for the expert committee's activities. Consequently, the committee deemed it appropriate to pursue activities in the following areas:

- Conducting analysis and discussions to support activities related to identifying, assessing, and forecasting cyber threats and risks in the relevant field.

- Providing recommendations for the prevention and mitigation of cyber threats, including organising timely and effective information exchange, as well as supporting ACOA’s activities in the public awareness process.

- Supporting efforts to counter the spread of disinformation in the cyber domain.

- Providing recommendations for the development and enhancement of necessary standards, technical documents, and procedures for the advancement of the relevant field.

- Organising public hearings, meetings, and roundtables to support activities in the relevant field.

- Contributing to the development of ACOA’s “White Paper” by providing input on the committee’s focus areas.

During the meeting, a vote was held among the Committee members to elect the chairman and secretary of the expert committee. Based on the vote, Vusal Salmanli, founder and director of the cybersecurity company "Defscope," was elected as the chairman, and Aykhan Huseynli, an ACOA expert, was elected as the secretary of the Committee.

It should be noted that the expert committees established by the ACOA Board of Directors are composed of experts representing legal entities that are ACOA members, as well as independent ACOA experts. These committees are formed to facilitate the sharing of information, discussion of issues and problems, and preparation and submission of proposals, recommendations, and documents in various subjects, sectors, and technological domains. The decisions and recommendations of the committees are considered in ACOA’s activities and form the basis for the proposals and recommendations presented.
